Subarus are known for their durability, efficiency, and athleticism. They’re also affordable. They are excellent vehicles that don’t need to show off. One of the true stars of the Subaru lineup is the Forester, and if you are looking for a fantastic vehicle for an equally fantastic deal, then a certified pre-owned Subaru Forester may be the way to go. The Forester was given a significant upgrade for the 2017 model year, which means we’ve had 5 years of the Forester at its best yet. That’s a lot of time for growth, though, so let’s look at the Foresters of the last five years to see how they have progressed.

2017 Subaru Forester

The 2017 Forester was not just upgraded in one or two areas; with increased style, technology, and efficiency, the Forester went through a major overhaul for the 2017 model year. Beginning with the exterior, the 2017 Forester was given a makeover by way of a hexagon-shaped grille and a redesigned front bumper cover. The addition of aluminum alloy wheels is just as exciting now as they were back in 2017, giving the Forester a strong foundation to set out for an adventure. Redesigned lighting with the classic Subaru C-shape made the 2017 Forester even more appealing, as it feels even more like a Subaru.

With increased styling within the 2017 Forester’s interior, drivers will enjoy a more refined in-vehicle experience than drivers of previous model years. But the really exciting updates come with the driving technology. The 2017 model year saw the addition of Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive as a standard feature on all Forester models. This signature traction capability is highly sought after, and you’ll be able to find it on your certified pre-owned Forester. With a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder Boxer engine paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, drivers of this fun stick-shift SUV will be able to cruise at 170 horsepower. Part of the 2017 makeover also includes increased fuel efficiency, giving your pre-owned 2017 Forester an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 26 miles per gallon in the city, 32 miles per gallon on the highway, and 28 miles-per-gallon combined. Subarus are known for their efficiency, and the 2017 Forester doesn’t back down. 2017 was only the first year of this made-over Forester. Let’s see how it has continued to progress.

A close up shows the passenger side headlight on a dark grey 2018 Subaru Forester Black Edition.

2018 Subaru Forester

The big news of the 2018 model year was the newly-introduced Forester Black Edition. Offering a slightly different set of sharp color schemes in sleek dark complexions and refined lighter complexions, this is a Forester with a classy take. This dark complexion continues on the interior, with a black color scheme (including a center panel finished with black gloss) complemented by silver stitching and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

The Black Edition does not only add class to the Forester’s design scheme, but also its capability. This edition adds Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission with a 6-speed transmission. With an increase (and standardization) of Subaru’s acclaimed EyeSight Driver Assist Technology, drivers will have an easy ride with Lane Keep Assist, High Beam Assist, and Reverse Automatic Braking features.

If you’re not looking for a classy design but rather for higher performance specs, then the 2018 model year is a fantastic year to look for your certified pre-owned Forester because of the 2.0XT. What is the 2.0XT, you ask? It is a very special sporty 2018 Forester available in Premium and Touring trims, equipped with a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder Boxer engine. Despite being a half-liter below the 2017 model, this engine uses an impressive combination of technologies to achieve 250 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 258 pounds-feet of torque when cruising between 2,000 and 4,800 rpm. That is a hefty performance increase.

2019 Subaru Forester

2019 was another year of significant upgrading for the Subaru Forester, so much so that the 2019 Forester was released as “all-new.” The 2.5-liter 4-cylinder Boxer engine was such a hit in the 2018 2.0XT that they decided to make it standard for the 2019 model year. The 2019 Forester comes standard with EyeSight Driver Assist, but this model takes it a step further. With the introduction of DriverFocus, the Forester combats driver distraction by using facial recognition software to identify tiredness or distraction in the driver. It can do this for up to five drivers and can even remember favored seating, mirror, and climate settings to ensure that each driver is set and ready to go when they enter the vehicle!

In addition to this innovative technology, the 2019 Forester was the most spacious Forester up to date. With an increased cargo space totaling 76.1 cubic feet and a storage gate that was increased to a width of 51.3 inches, loading and unloading is far easier than in previous model years. The 2019 Forester makes it far easier to take on road-tripping, camping, and any other adventures that may come your way.

Depending on the adventure, the 2019 Forester Sport, which was a new edition for the 2019 model year, may be of interest to you. This model is perfect for those with an adventurous spirit and a love for the great outdoors. Each model year, the Forester just keeps getting better and better, appealing to a wider range of drivers.

2020 Subaru Forester

The 2020 Forester was built upon the strong foundation laid out by the all-new 2019 Forester. With a performance increase allowing the 2020 model to tow up to 1,500 pounds, and the addition of standard Trailer Stability Assist, this was the strongest Forester yet. Whether towing or not, standard SI-Drive allows drivers to customize their driving experience to the circumstances, and standard Subaru Starlink technology allows for premium connectivity while behind the wheel.

The biggest technological increase of the 2020 model year was the rear seat reminder. If you’re driving with little ones, your 2020 Forester will make sure you never forget about those who might be napping in the backseat. If you’re looking for the All-New 2019 Subaru with some extra upgrades, then 2020 is the year to look at.

A black 2021 Certified Pre-Owned Subaru Forester is shown riving past rolling hills.

2021 Subaru Forester

The Forester continues to get better every year. The 2021 model built upon the vehicle’s history by increasing steering responsiveness and making LED headlights and High Beam Assist standard on all trims. A leading technology update for the 2021 model year is the standardization of the rear seat belt reminder. The previous entry made sure you don’t forget to grab passengers out of the backseat, while this model makes sure you don’t forget to buckle them up.

Even when updates seem small, they significantly increase the quality of the driving experience, so the more recent you buy, the better your experience will be. But, as you can see, you can’t go wrong with any of these Foresters from the past five years.

A History of Value

The Forester is the most popular Subaru model and it’s well deserved. But, it’s not only the quality of the vehicle—it’s the value. The Forester is very well-priced for its outstanding quality. Low prices are only so good if your driving experience is compromised. The Forester, however, offers you a leading vehicle for a lower price, made lower by purchasing certified pre-owned. No matter which model year you choose, you’re in for a great deal with a certified pre-owned Subaru Forester!

There comes a time in everyone’s life when they must sit back and examine their past and their present self to determine how to pave their way towards a great future to ensure a life worthy of being a legacy. People want to be known, and they want to be remembered. We want to be seen, and we want to be idolized, whether by our peers or, most importantly, by the ones we hold dearest to us. Our livelihoods and lifestyles are essential to defining our legacies and with the proper vehicle, living the life you want can be made a lot easier. The question you need to ask yourself is, “What kind of life do you want to lead?” If you want to leave behind a legacy filled with passion, purpose, and adventure, it may be worth looking into a certified pre-owned Subaru Legacy for your family’s next vehicle.

Join the Movement, Buy a Subaru

Subaru is more than just an automobile brand—it’s a movement, culture, and lifestyle. When you buy a Subaru, you are getting more than just an affordable, reliable form of transportation, trusted by drivers worldwide to keep their families safe no matter what roads and adventures they journey along. You will get a vehicle that will last for generations to come. And you will be joining a network of people and families who all want to leave behind a legacy they can be proud of.

Subaru’s mission is to make the world a better place by doing more than just providing driver-focused vehicles with excellence in safety and performance, as well as exceptional customer service built around compassion and integrity. With Subaru’s “Love Promise”, the brand is commited to helping improve the world we live in and the lives of those around us.

Subaru has relationships with many organizations to help preserve the environment with its “Loves The Earth” program and helps with health research, care, and support for those in need with its “Loves to Care” endeavor. Other initiatives include “Loves to Help”, “Subaru Loves Learning”, and even “Subaru Loves Pets” programs. Because of the brand’s dedication to its vehicles, drivers, and the world at large, Subaru has become a legacy of its own with a devoted following.

From online groups to clubs and meets, Subie drivers worldwide stay connected to each other because they share the love and enthusiasm for the same brand of vehicles and a similar desire for a legacy filled with passion, purpose, and adventure. Sound familiar? Even if you don’t plan on joining a Subie club or attending meets like Subiefest or the Wicked Big Meet to gather with other people with the same interests, when you buy a Subaru, the family is still there for you whenever you need it. Whether it be other Subie enthusiasts, the brand itself, or even us here at Williams Subaru, your Subaru family is here for you whenever you need us. What Drives You?

Everyone has their list of wants and needs when they begin their journey to finding their next vehicle. Maybe you are looking for safety, style, longevity, versatility, or the right-sized vehicle for your family’s daily commuting needs. If you haven’t made a list yet, before you look at any vehicle, ask yourself what your wants and needs are for an automobile because those will be your deciding factors with a model, no matter what brand you choose to go with.

Once completed, if you find that your main concerns are to find a budget-friendly and safe vehicle for all of your family’s commutes for work, school, and play, a sedan may be a good place to start. Sure, an SUV is a great option too, but you’ll get more interior storage space for a heftier price tag, and that’s about it. Plus, if all-wheel drive is what has you teetering on the edge of choosing an SUV, the Subaru Legacy is a mid-size sedan that seats up to five passengers and is designed with Subaru’s iconic Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system that gives you confidence while you drive with continuous control of your vehicle no matter what road conditions you are up against.

With the Legacy’s already budget-friendly price, purchasing a certified pre-owned Subaru Legacy may be even more appealing to you. You’ll save even more upfront by purchasing used vehicles, plus you’ll get additional benefits not available if you buy a traditional used vehicle. Subaru’s are built for longevity, so even if you buy a pre-owned model, you can still pass it on to the new driver of the household years down the line.

Your Choice, Your Legacy

Who you are and the life you want to follow is completely up to you. But the legacy you leave behind for the ones you care about most to remember you by is based on your lifestyle and livelihood, which is why you want to make every aspect of each day count, including your next vehicle purchase. Don’t settle for a model that doesn’t satisfy you and your family’s wants or needs in a vehicle, or a brand that can’t meet your expectations—all it’s going to do is prevent you from what you deserve and stand in the way of your ideal legacy. Subaru offers vehicles and a commitment to its drivers built for the long haul, and when you need to maximize your budgeting, Subaru’s certified pre-owned program is a worthy option.

Subaru’s are built to last—over 97% of Subaru vehicles over a decade old can still be found driving alongside even the newest models on the market. This is why the brand can offer a pre-owned program that makes their already budget-friendly vehicles even more affordable for drivers like you who want to put their money towards more important things, like family. When you buy a Subaru Pre-Owned Vehicle, you will benefit from more than just the Subaru itself and the extended family you are joining; the pre-owned program offers you much more.

When a pre-owned model becomes certified by Subaru, you’ll know it’s not a typical used vehicle you can find on the side of the road with a “for sale” sign on the windshield. Certified Pre-Owned Subarus only qualify for the program if they are less than 5 years old and have fewer than 80,000 miles on them. If they meet those basic requirements, they then go through a rigorous 152-point inspection with any necessary repairs to become certified. This ensures that you’ll be getting a quality used vehicle before you even choose a model to test drive.

Once you do decide on a model, you can drive away with confidence knowing the brand commits itself to its drivers and is committed to you and your vehicle through more than just a promise, but through a 7-year or 100,000-mile powertrain factory-backed coverage with the option to purchase additional coverage as well. You’ll even get 24/7 roadside assistance on top of a CARFAX vehicle history report and other perks to top off the deal.

So what are you waiting for? Your family’s Certified Pre-Owned Subaru Legacy is awaiting! With your choice of the latest five model years, each with a vast selection of trim levels to choose from, you are guaranteed to find your perfect Legacy. Whether you are looking for the least expensive base model which still comes standard in all-wheel drive and has the most advanced safety features, or you are looking for luxurious features in one of the top-level Limited and Touring models, there’s a pre-owned Legacy waiting for you to take charge of your future and pave the way for your own legacy.

Drive Towards Your Future

A vehicle is more than just a form of transportation. It is a part of your livelihood and needs to represent your lifestyle. You wouldn’t buy a sedan to haul a trailer, nor would you purchase a truck specifically for its fuel economy. You also wouldn’t buy a hatchback for a family vehicle or a large SUV for solo commuting. We may need a vehicle for our adventures each day, but the vehicles we choose are completely based on what we need and want in and from our vehicles. The same can be said for the lives that we lead.

We make our own fates and the paths we choose define the legacies that we will leave behind for our peers and the ones we cherish most. The vehicles we choose for ourselves and our families help build those legacies of ours by getting us to work each day so we can be successful at our careers, provide for the people we love, and live each day as if it were the best day of our lives. Each of us is driven towards a purpose, an adventure in life so to speak, that we are dedicated to and passionate about. Whether it’s our career, our family and friends, or the environment, we all share the same ultimate goal, and so does Subaru. It’s time to ask yourself: “What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind?”

A blue 2017 Subaru Crosstrek is shown driving on a gravel road.

Regardless of their personal brand allegiance, most drivers can agree that Subaru has a pretty impressive lineup of vehicles. If standard all-wheel drive, a long track record of dependability, and rugged style are your thing, you’re probably aware of what Subaru’s SUVs have to offer. You probably also already know that a swing by Williams Subaru, your Certified Pre-Owned Subaru dealership, is a great way to get a fantastic deal on a recent, low-mileage used Subaru, as well.

Subaru’s Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) program offers special factory-backed deals on used vehicles that are up to five years old and have fewer than 80,000 miles on them. Each CPO Subaru has undergone a manufacturer-required 152-point inspection by our certified technicians and comes with a CARFAX vehicle history report to ensure the product being sold to you is in tip-top condition. Other bonuses include a 7-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty with a $0 deductible, 27/7 roadside assistance, and a 1-year subscription to Subaru’s STARLINK Safety Plus Package with Automatic Collision Notification.

But how do you determine which Certified Pre-Owned Subaru SUV is the best fit for your lifestyle and driving style? Let’s take a look at some of the best current SUV models in Subaru’s lineup to determine which one fits your needs.

2020 Subaru Crosstrek: Small but Mighty

The smallest of Subaru’s SUVs is the Crosstrek. This economical subcompact model has earned multiple awards for its capability and performance. The 2020 model was named #2 in the Best Subcompact SUVs of 2020 category by Kelley Blue Book, thanks to its spacious interior, ideal level of power, and abundant standard features.

The Crosstrek stands 8.7 inches above the ground and includes 20.8 cubic feet of cargo space in the trunk. With the rear seats folded, this extends to 55.3 cubic feet, which is a substantial amount of room for stashing a variety of stuff, such as adventure gear, furniture, or groceries. Features such as automatic climate control and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration are normal across the lineup, with heated front seats, premium sound systems, and leather upholstery are available on higher trims.

Under the hood is a 2.0L flat-4 engine, one of Subaru’s standard and well-liked engines. This provides plenty of power, whether you’re cruising through the city streets or somewhere deep in nature. Manual and automatic transmissions are offered, though the Continuously Variable automatic transmission offers slightly better fuel economy.

The Subaru Crosstrek is a good fit for drivers who spend equal time on the streets and the trails, as well as those who travel solo or in pairs. If you have a need for lots of cargo room and lots of passengers at the same time, fear not: the Subaru SUVs only get bigger from here!

2018 Subaru Outback: The SUV That Can Wear Many Hats

For many years, the Outback has been the multi-purpose tool of the Subaru lineup. This crossover SUV is bigger than the Crosstrek but doesn’t quite fit into the full-size SUV class. The Outback received a thorough update in 2018, which makes this year highly coveted among drivers shopping for Certifed Pre-Owned models. With standard all-wheel drive, a towing capacity of up to 3,000 pounds, and a total of 73.3 cubic feet of cargo space, the Outback is clearly a versatile vehicle that many drivers can appreciate.

Subaru Outbacks offer a few features that can benefit drivers who are always on the road. The standard STARLINK infotainment system includes smartphone compatibility as well as an array of Subaru-specific apps, which can help you find adventure no matter where you are. The X-Mode drive select system has been designed for off-roading but includes a variety of modes that can help the Outback handle whatever terrain you encounter, from the pavement to mud.

Most Outbacks come with the standard 2.5L boxer-4 engine, though a larger 3.6L flat-6 is offered as well. Each provides an impressive fuel economy, whether in the city or on the highway. An automatic transmission is standard on the Subaru Outback for easy driving.

The Outback may seem very adventurous, but don’t dismiss this SUV, even if you never plan to leave Charlotte. The Outback is big enough for luggage, instruments, tools, antiques, or even a couple strollers and car seats. If having a safe, capable vehicle for your stuff and your family is important to you, the Outback is highly prepared and durable.

2019 Subaru Forester: Family-Friendly and Cargo-Ready

Given the blurred lines that divide members of the SUV family, perhaps the best way to describe the Forester is “slightly smaller than the Outback.” The 2019 model year was the start of the most recent generation of the Forester, and Subaru made the conscientious decision to increase the interior space to accommodate more passengers and more cargo. The cargo opening measures 51.3 inches wide and is paired with an available power tailgate to make loading and unloading more manageable. Integrated cargo net hooks, cargo area lighting, and 60/40-split folding rear seats help drivers get the most out of their Forester’s capabilities.

The 2019 Forester also includes standard EyeSight driver assistance technology. This suite of features offers adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, and pre-collision braking, along with trailer stability assist. The rearview camera has its own designated washing system, too, so your family and belongings are at an advantage no matter which direction you’re traveling.

With safety and space as its primary guiding principles, the Forester has been a top choice among families since it hit the streets in 1997. Whether you need the room for car seats or sports gear and science projects, the standard all-wheel drive, standard safety features, and roomy interior of the Subaru Forester make it an ideal choice for those who value a certain amount of peace of mind.

2019 Subaru Ascent: Three Rows and Ready to Go

Adventure comes in many sizes, as do families. For those who need plenty of room for the whole crew, the Subaru Ascent offers three rows of seating for up to eight passengers, depending on the configuration chosen. Not only does the Ascent offer seating for that many passengers––it’s designed to accommodate them comfortably, with standard tri-zone automatic climate control, USB ports in every row, and a total of 19 cup holders. The doors and handles are designed to help passengers climb in and out, and with the rear seats folded, there’s room for up to 86 cubic feet of gear.

The Ascent made its debut in the 2019 model year, so this is a very recent addition to Subaru’s lineup. Equipped with a 2.4L turbocharged flat-4 engine and standard all-wheel drive, the Ascent hits all the right marks when it comes to comfort and performance. The EyeSight safety system is onboard, along with smartphone integration. The Ascent SUV will be an easy pick for those who frequently drive the carpool or move a lot of cargo. And, for those who think larger size means “harder to drive,” the Ascent is equipped with plenty of pep for responsive handling.

Time to Choose Your CPO Subaru SUV

There’s more to the decision-making process than knowing which Subaru makes sense for you. You’ll want to formulate a budget and test drive a few before you make your final selection. You’ll also want to consider different trims and features available. Though there are still plenty of choices to make, purchasing a Certified Pre-Owned Subaru SUV should be simple.

The friendly team here at Williams Subaru will be able to assist with any questions you might have, as well as help you get behind the wheel of a few options to see which one fits just right. There’s a Subaru SUV for every lifestyle and every sense of adventure, from small to big, so if you dream of all-wheel drive, or crave a balance of exhilaration and responsibility, take a look at what Subaru has to offer. From subcompact to three-row, it’s time to discover which CPO Subaru is the right fit for you.

New, Certified Pre-Owned (CPO), or used? Because of Subaru’s remarkable durability, Certified Pre-Owned Subaru vehicles are the ideal choice if you’re looking to save some money but still want a nearly new vehicle. As your Certified Pre-Owned Subaru dealer in Charlotte, we have a list of four fantastic Certified Pre-Owned Subarus that you will love for years to come. Your hardest decision will be which one to take home!

Why Certified Pre-Owned?

A common question around used car buying is, what’s the difference between used vehicles and Certified Pre-Owned vehicles? Simply put, Certified Pre-Owned vehicles are held to a higher standard than used vehicles. A Subaru vehicle must pass a 152-point safety inspection to ensure it is in pristine condition inside and out in order to become eligible to be labeled as a CPO model. There are also some perks with Certified Pre-Owned Subarus that aren’t available with other used Subarus.

Certified Pre-Owned Subaru vehicles come with a 7-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty, plus 24/7 roadside assistance. These features aren’t available in other used Subaru vehicles, so it’s definitely a major advantage to choosing a Certified Pre-Owned Subaru. Now, considering your budget, lifestyle, and wish list, you can select the best Subaru for your needs.

A red 2021 Subaru Ascent is shown leaving a certified pre-owned Subaru dealer in Charlotte.

Subaru Ascent

The Subaru Ascent is Subaru’s largest SUV featuring three spacious rows for all of your passengers. It’s the ideal family SUV or for those adventurers that pack heavy. The Ascent can seat 7-8 passengers with either second-row captain’s chairs or a full second row. For those times you need more cargo room, simply fold the third row, and even the second row, down to get maximum space for your gear.

Subaru drivers have high expectations for their Subaru SUVs, and the Ascent delivers. The Subaru Ascent offers standard all-wheel drive and high ground clearance, giving you the ability to conquer a variety of road conditions. Both the 2020 and 2021 Subaru Ascent feature 8.7 inches of ground clearance, to be exact. You also have the ability to tow up to 5,000 pounds in the Subaru Ascent.

In addition to the Ascent’s great capability features, it also features standard driver assist technology, EyeSight, starting with models from 2019. No matter where you drive, you can have the peace of mind of an extra level of defense. Other innovative technology and convenience features are available in the Ascent, like an infotainment system, power liftgate, advanced sound system, and WiFi connectivity. Driving a Certified Pre-Owned Subaru Ascent gives you the ability to experience new features without the new price tag. The Subaru Ascent’s third row, cargo volume, capability, and technology cause this SUV to stand out in its class and among Subaru vehicles, making it an excellent Certified Pre-Owned vehicle.

Subaru Outback

The Subaru Outback is a classic Subaru vehicle, and it’s come a long way from its first days. New technology and design make the Subaru Outback one of the top SUVs in its class year after year. One of the reasons the Outback makes such a great Certified Pre-Owned vehicle is because of its reliability and strength. Even as this SUV ages, you can still trust it with every drive.

In 2020, the Subaru Outback was redesigned to be more sturdy and stronger. It showed in the results, too, with the 2020 Outback winning top safety scores by the NHTSA. In addition to the top-quality construction, the Subaru Outback includes driver assist and safety technology features through its EyeSight technology. These features alone make the Subaru Outback one of the safest and most durable SUVs in its segment.

The Subaru Outback is built to have fun too! The 2019 and 2020 Subaru Outbacks have 8.7 inches of ground clearance and feature standard all-wheel drive. With its extra-large cargo storage, you have more than enough reason to pack up for a weekend adventure in the North Carolina mountains. Using the infotainment system, navigation, and WiFi connectivity, you can stay connected wherever the Subaru Outback takes you. Choosing a Certified Pre-Owned Subaru Outback means you take advantage of the latest technology and experience the long life of an Outback at a more affordable price that fits in your budget.

A black 2021 Subaru Forester is shown from the rear leaving a certified pre-owned Subaru dealer in Charlotte.

Subaru Forester

The Subaru Forester is an incredibly versatile compact SUV that has the engineering and features to be an SUV for any activity. The Forester is smaller than the Subaru Outback but is still quite spacious and offers a large amount of cargo storage for its compact SUV class. It still has a variety of standard features that not only make the Subaru Forester a safe vehicle but a top-ranking SUV in its class.

Just like the other Subaru SUVs, the Forester offers standard all-wheel drive and 8.7 inches of ground clearance. You also get to take advantage of standard Subaru EyeSight technology with safety and driver assist features. What makes the Subaru Forester stand out, though, is its engineering and construction to make a spacious interior while still maintaining its overall compact SUV size. Not every SUV driver needs an extra-large vehicle, so the Subaru Forester is the solution for more legroom but a smaller footprint.

The 2019 Subaru Forester was redesigned to be even more durable and offers new and improved features. In 2020 the Forester adds more driver assist features to its EyeSight technology. When you choose a Certified Pre-Owned Subaru Forester, you get to take advantage of the latest safety and technology developments available in Subaru vehicles. The Subaru Forester has long been a bestselling Subaru vehicle, and it’s only improving!

Subaru Crosstrek

The Subaru Crosstrek is a subcompact SUV that stands out in its class. Standard all-wheel drive, 8.7 inches of ground clearance, and standard driver assist features make the Subaru Crosstrek a bold option in the subcompact SUV category. These performance features make the Crosstrek very capable on the rough roads, which is something other subcompact SUVs can’t claim.

Like with other Subaru vehicles, the Crosstrek holds its value because of its durability, quality, and capability. This is also why the Subaru Crosstrek makes a great Certified Pre-Owned vehicle. The Crosstrek doesn’t skip on technology either. Starting in 2019, the Subaru Crosstrek models with CVT transmission now have the EyeSight driver assist technology standard. These innovative safety and driver assist features are in high demand among drivers, and Subaru delivers by making them standard in automatic Crosstrek models.

The Subaru Crosstrek is the perfect SUV for those who like the elevated ride of an SUV but without the extra vehicle size. You still experience good cargo volume and interior space in the Crosstrek, along with the latest technology. A Certified Pre-Owned Subaru Crosstrek gives you a high quality used vehicle while still experiencing the best years of the Crosstrek’s vehicle life.

The American Customer Satisfaction Index rated Subaru as the safest, most dependable, and highest quality brand in the automotive industry. This can be shown by the fact that 96% of Subaru vehicles sold over the last decade are still on the road today, according to credit rating agency Experian. This is a higher percentage of vehicles than Honda and Toyota. This is probably why Subaru was named number 1 for overall brand loyalty in the automotive industry for three years in a row by J.D. Power and the four-time Best Overall Brand award winner from Kelley Blue Book.

When it comes to vehicle safety, no other brand’s models had as many Top Safety Picks by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. You can find out the value of driving a Subaru at a great price when you come in for one of these five fabulous used models at Williams Subaru. 1. Subaru Forester

Originally introduced in time for the 1997 model year, the Forester has positioned itself as one of the most reliable and technologically advanced compact SUVs on the road today. The Forester is currently in its fifth generation, which first began appearing here in 2018. So, if you buy a used Forester from that year or later, you will get a roomy SUV with a spacious rear seat that provides plenty of room for up to five passengers.

The Subaru Forester runs on a 2.5-liter BOXER 4-cylinder gas engine that has auto stop-start technology to improve fuel economy. This engine also has solid acceleration as a result of the SI-Drive engine performance management system. This allows you to switch between I-Drive for improved fuel efficiency and S-Drive for more speed. The Forester is built from the ground up as an all-wheel drive vehicle, so its drivetrain will give you exceptional traction and grip, especially in cold weather. This vehicle also has solid cornering, with steering that will stay tight to the road even on some tough curves.

2. Subaru Crosstrek

Whoever came up with the phrase “good things come in small packages” must have had a used Subaru Crosstrek in mind. This subcompact SUV first hit the road in 2012 and is currently in its second model generation, introduced in 2017. The Crosstrek is sleek and sporty, with a look that is similar to the Forester.

The Crosstrek’s efficient 2.0-liter Boxer 4-cylinder gas engine makes it equally at home either in the city or out on the highway, with a combined fuel economy in the range of 30 miles per gallon. This is why a used Crosstrek is equally good for commuters and student drivers. This model also features the Subaru Symmetrical all-wheel drive system to help keep you safely on the road, even if the weather turns rough.

While the Crosstrek may look small from the outside, don’t let looks fool you. A used Crosstrek has plenty of room for you and your passengers, as well as a useful trunk. While it doesn’t have all the interior space of a Forester, it still will be quite comfortable for everyone who gets to ride along with you.

3. Subaru Outback

Inspired by the expansive inland desert of Australia, the Subaru Outback is built for fun and adventure. A used Outback has quite an impressive pedigree, dating back to 1994. This is one of the longest-running models in Subaru’s history, with the sixth-generation models of this midsize SUV appearing in time for the 2020 model year. These models sport a choice of two different Boxer 4-cylinder gas engines that are both powerful and efficient. Older models come with either a 2.5-liter Boxer 4-cylinder engine that is similar to the one on the current generation model and a 3.6-liter flat-6 engine with more power but lower fuel economy numbers. The used Subaru Outback is a standard all-wheel drive vehicle, giving you the traction you need no matter where you go.

The Outback is one of the roomiest vehicles built by Subaru with an expansive trunk that expands to over 75 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear row of seats folded down. This five-passenger model still provides over 32 cubic feet of trunk space in its hatchback when both rows of seats are in use. As a result, the Outback is an exceptional family car. The Subaru EyeSight Driver Assist Technology on most used Outback models will help keep you and your loved ones safe on the way to your next adventure.

4. Subaru Ascent

One of the newest models in the Subaru lineup is the Ascent. This three-row, midsize SUV has been on the road since 2018, busily developing a reputation for comfort, spaciousness, and drivability. A used Ascent comes with one of the most powerful engines built by Subaru, a 2.4-liter Turbocharged Boxer 4-cylinder gas engine. This direct-injection engine will give you an amazing 260 horsepower to give you some serious get up and go.

The Ascent is the ideal vehicle for someone who wants to run with the crowd. That is because the Ascent can seat up to 8 passengers, so you will have no excuse to leave anyone behind. With over 153 cubic feet of passenger space, everyone is sure to feel comfortable even on long trips. You can also use your Ascent for hauling your stuff, with over 86 cubic feet of cargo space that can be easily freed up by folding down the second and third rows of seats. This makes a used Subaru Ascent perfect for someone who wants a versatile SUV.

5. Subaru WRX

If you have a need for speed but also want to get where you are going safely and in style, then a used Subaru WRX is for you. This series of performance hatchbacks was first introduced by Subaru in 2014 and quickly established them as a must-have for road racing fans. The key has been the installation of small but powerful turbocharged 4-cylinder Boxer engines.

The standard WRX models feature a 2.0-liter engine that gives you 268 horsepower, while the WRX STI models with their distinctive rear spoilers sport a 2.5-liter engine with 310 horsepower that is not for the faint of heart. Helping to set the used Subaru WRX apart from other roadsters is the standard Subaru Symmetrical all-wheel drive. This gives the WRX incomparable handling and grip. This will keep your WRX from spinning out on curves that other sports cars must handle with care.

Subaru will be introducing an all-new generation of the WRX for the 2022 model year. This means that now may be the best time to buy a used WRX so you can push the envelope in this sporty hatchback.

Come to Williams Subaru for Your Next Used Car

Used Subaru models run the gamut from the sporty WRX to the roomy Ascent, with the Crosstrek, Forester, and Outback sitting neatly in between. All feature Symmetrical all-wheel drive, giving you the advantage of a used car designed with all-wheel drive in mind. This is different from most other brands that put an all-wheel drive system on a vehicle that was originally designed for either a front-wheel or rear-wheel drivetrain. In addition, Subarus feature the Boxer engine that was built for improved performance and exceptional fuel economy. Best of all, with Subaru’s record for longevity, you know that you will have many great years of driving your used Subaru, no matter which model you decide to buy from us at Williams Subaru.

A couple is shown at a Certified pre-owned Subaru dealer.

Everyone likes a good deal, and a Certified Pre-Owned Subaru definitely qualifies for a “good deal.” There’s plenty to like about the Subaru brand, including the fact that 97% of Subarus purchased in the past 10 years are still being driven today. But to say that a Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) Subaru could change your entire life, that’s awfully bold, isn’t it?

To be fair, purchasing a CPO Subaru won’t make your T-zone less oily, give you the ability to play complicated flute solos, or run a faster mile. It will, however, provide you with the peace of mind that only comes from extended factory-backed warranties, a 152-point inspection, and 24/7 roadside assistance. Add into that you’re driving one of the foremost adventure vehicles in the United States, complete with standard all-wheel drive and some of the best safety ratings in its class, and it’s easy to see how shopping Certified Pre-Owned Subarus is a life-changing choice. All the vehicles you want with none of the uncertainty and guessing game of buying a used vehicle? Sounds pretty wonderful! Which means the hard part is deciding which CPO Subaru is right for your needs.

What Is a Certified Pre-Owned Subaru?

A Certified Pre-Owned Subaru is, technically, a “used” Subaru, but not all used vehicles meet the qualifications to be certified by the manufacturer. First, the vehicle must be less than five years old and have fewer than 80,000 miles on the odometer. Next, the vehicle must receive a rigorous 152 point inspection. The guidelines for this inspection are available for download from Subaru directly, which means you’ll find no surprises when you take a look at a CPO Subaru at your local dealership.

From measuring tire tread to ensure it’s within certain guidelines to checking the heating and cooling systems for strange smells, the inspection is very thorough. Anything that doesn’t pass the standards must be repaired, with a full list of details regarding each repair or update attached to the inspection report. The inspection must be signed by the Subaru-trained technician who completed it, the service manager, and the customer, which means you’re not just relying on someone’s word for it that this car is in good shape. The manufacturer will keep a copy of this report, too. Also included is a CARFAX report, a copy of which is given to the new owner, as well. This report must indicate a clean title in order to be considered for the CPO program.

Besides knowing what you’re getting when you drive away in your almost-new vehicle, these reports are the basis for the factory-backed 7-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty you’ll receive with your CPO Subaru. This warranty extends the basic 5-year/60,000-mile version that all brand new Subarus receive. When the original powertrain warranty expires, the new one will take its place, covering engine and transmission for up to 7 years or 100,000 miles from the original sale date of the vehicle with no deductible.

Subaru offers two additional options for extending the warranty. The first option is considered the “Classic” wrap-around protection. This covers major parts for 7 years or 100,000 miles, including brakes, suspension, drivetrain, fuel and electrical systems, and important features like air conditioning. In addition to providing a warranty for select components, this plan includes 24/7 Roadside Assistance, including towing and rental car reimbursement when extensive repairs are required.

The second option is called the “Gold Plus” wrap-around plan. This plan is very much the same as the bumper-to-bumper warranty that would have been offered with the vehicle when it was purchased brand new. Additionally, it provides trip interruption coverage with meal and lodging assistance, as well as travel assistance in its enhanced Roadside Assistance program.

CPO drivers will also get a few added bonuses, like a $500 Owner Loyalty Coupon, a free trial subscription to SiriusXM, and a one-year trial subscription to STARLINK Safety Plus Package. So, which CPO Subaru is it going to be? Let’s take a look at Subaru’s threesome of award-winning SUVs to help you learn their differences and personalities.

A blue 2021 Subaru Crosstrek Touring is shown from the side driving past a lake with kayaks on the roof.

Do I Want the Crosstrek?

Want a big/little car/SUV? Conflicting terms come to a pleasant agreement with the Crosstrek. The Subaru Crosstrek is based on the Impreza sedan, which means it’s a more compact SUV/crossover. That also means it drives and handles like a car does, with softer springs and a ride that cushions through the corners. Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive comes standard on this model, placing power on the wheel with the best contact and delivering a soft, safe ride.

Drivers looking at a Certified Pre Owned Crosstrek in 2021 can go all the way back to 2016 when the Crosstrek received a substantial refresh. This included updates to the safety equipment, including Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic alert, and Subaru’s EyeSight technology, which provides adaptive cruise control features combined with forward collision detection.

All of this comes along with LED lighting inside and out and a critically-acclaimed automatic CVT. However, if a 5-speed manual is more your thing, the 2016 Crosstrek gives drivers that option, as well. You’ll find almost 52 cubic feet of cargo space inside, too. With a 2.0L flat-4 boxer engine under the hood, this Subaru is good for 148 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque. Even better, drivers can anticipate 26 miles per gallon on the city streets and 34 miles per gallon highway when the automatic CVT is chosen. These numbers are even more impressive when you consider all-wheel drive is standard.

What About an Outback?

The Outback is an excellent choice if adventure is your thing. The Subaru Outback got a major redesign in 2020, which makes finding a CPO model even more attractive. The 2020 Outback was rated by Kelley Blue Book as the #4 Best Midsize SUV for the model year, thanks to its robust safety feature enhancements, brand new infotainment system, and impressive cargo space, which measures 75.7 cubic feet with the rear seats folded.

The Outback also includes Subaru’s symmetrical AWD system, but with its 8.7-inch ground clearance, this vehicle is ready to take on more than your standard paved roadways. Also on board are X-Mode traction with hill descent control and a massive amount of high-strength steel, helping boost its IIHS Top Safety Pick+ rating. The Outback is a pro at road work, too; however, with an improved standard EyeSight package that includes reverse automatic braking and DriverFocus facial-recognition technology that can sense when drivers are distracted or sleepy. The 2020 model is particularly sought-after because of the upgraded engine – a 2.4L turbocharged 4-cylinder that propels the Outback with a quick and responsive ride regardless of terrain or altitude.

Maybe the Forester Is for Me?

If plenty of interior space is your thing, but you don’t want to drive a three-row behemoth, the Forester is a good bet for you. The Subaru Forester received a complete makeover in 2019, making it a fantastic contender for CPO Subaru buyers. Inside, the Forester has room for five adults or nearly 75 cubic feet of cargo with the seats folded. The cargo opening is a magnificent 51.3 inches wide, making loading and unloading awkward loads significantly less complicated. Yet, the exterior measures just 182 inches in length, which means less anxiety in parking lots and on crowded city streets.

Like the Outback, the Forester is equipped with the right stuff to head off the road towards adventure. Full-time all-wheel drive, 8.7 inches of ground clearance, and even a dedicated washing system for the rearview camera make mud, gravel, and dirt a non-issue. On the road, the Forester is well-behaved, with a highway fuel economy of 33 miles per gallon, thanks to active grille shutters in the front bumper and Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive.

A CPO Subaru Is What You Need

There are plenty of compelling reasons to shop for a Certified Pre-Owned Subaru. Getting behind the wheel of a vehicle that was built to last can help reduce buyer’s anxiety, but knowing that a CPO Subaru is backed by the factory for an extended period of time can certainly bring peace of mind. Factor in roadside assistance and other manufacturer bonuses, and driving away in a Certified Pre-Owned Subaru seems like a very logical thing to do.

Subaru’s SUV lineup includes three very mighty, zippy, and determined vehicles. From the small-yet-capable Crosstrek to the classic Outback and the spacious Forester, each of these SUVs has received recent updates that make them prime candidates for Subaru’s CPO program. Of course, it might still be hard to choose just one, even after test driving them yourself. There’s just something fun about the adventurous and polite Subaru crossover SUV. From the assertive boxer engines to the seemingly endless abilities of these vehicles, there’s a Subaru that’s just right for your next big journey.

A 2022 Subaru WRX driving on a racetrack.

The Subaru WRX has built up quite the reputation over the years. It became an absolute icon during the 1990s in the rally scene, taking pole positions and becoming the face of rally cars for some time. The innovations and rugged performance of the WRX spawned a lot of stiff competition from rival automakers, constantly forcing Subaru to push the WRX further, harder, and faster than ever before. Over the years, the company has refined the sedan so that when potential shoppers scout their local Subaru WRX dealer for the latest model year, they’ll find a very different beast compared to what was racing past finish lines in the 1990s. In fact, there are a few things you may not have known about the new 2022 WRX when it comes to some performance feats.

Luckily for you, this article will go through some of the performance capabilities of the WRX you may not have initially known it was capable of. While you might be aware of some of its basic powertrain features and performance capabilities, we’ll talk a little bit about what may have actually escaped some of the recent press releases and some of the more common reviews.

4 – You Don’t Need Mods for High-Speed Handling

For a lot of people who purchase popular sedans, compacts, and hatchbacks that are prone to aftermarket tuning, there’s a general misconception that the WRX needs to have its power buffed and its performance upgraded to improve its overall handling. In reality, it’s already finely tuned to accomplish many of its performance feats without requiring aftermarket tuning.

Some people found out the hard way that adding downpipes and J-pipes for extra gains in performance can sometimes disrupt the balancing in the powerband of the WRX and how it handles. There’s also the issue of voiding your warranty by tuning the vehicle, which could prove to be a huge problem, especially if you’re not entirely happy with the results. It can definitely become disheartening for some owners.

This was an issue that YouTuber Auto Enthusiast encountered after he modified his Subaru and found that the performance gains weren’t quite what he thought. It turns out that the newer generation Subaru WRX models are already finely tuned for optimal handling. Of course, this isn’t to say that you can’t modify your WRX, but anyone who isn’t planning on racing their WRX or hitting up a track really doesn’t need to perform any unnecessary changes to get the best handling and performance out of the sedan.

3 – WRX Can Take High-Speed Turns Thanks to AWD

As mentioned, the 2022 Subaru WRX has been finely tuned for a lot of high-performance handling. Right off the assembly line, the WRX is capable of hitting corners with precision at high speeds. A lot of this is thanks to the symmetrical all-wheel drive system, something that Subaru has been improving, perfecting, and upgrading since the 1990s.

The symmetrical all-wheel drive capabilities have always been one of the strong selling points of the WRX, and the ability to gun it on twisting roads while still maintaining excellent maneuverability is something that can’t be said for many four-door sedans. A lot of this is thanks to Subaru maintaining a rigid suspension, active torque vectoring, and stability management via a vehicle dynamics and traction control system.

Those aren’t just fancy engineering words and marketing terms; they all help in actual driving applications. Thanks to precision steering, a wide body, and a low center of gravity, the vehicle is capable of maintaining a lot of grip and stability, even at high speeds. It’s perfect for those who enjoy giving their sedan a little gas on long stretches of road, even when there are frequent bends and winding turns.

2 – The 2022 WRX Can Tackle Off-Road Trails

The stock 2022 Subaru WRX can be driven off-road… with caveats. The suspension, the handling, the engine, and the wheels are capable of taking you on a journey off the beaten path. It’s one of the big selling points for the 2022 WRX, but it’s not something that may stand out at the forefront of the mind of casual observers of the car. In fact, it’s an understated performance feat that is more popular in the actual car culture communities.

You can find plenty of people who own a WRX who regularly take the performance sedan into uncharted territory, whether it’s maxing out the speed on the Salt Flats in Utah or attempting to trudge through mounds of snow up north. There are those who enjoy pushing their WRX to the limits without completely destroying the car. This is part of the appeal of the WRX, with drivers pushing their curiosity and the car’s performance capabilities to the max.

However, it should be noted that a stock WRX going off-road has its limits. You can’t hit up a rally course with a 2022 WRX and not expect to completely destroy the car. The ride height is too low, the tires aren’t right for rough terrain, and the suspension isn’t made for the punishing jumps that professionally tuned rally cars can take. However, you can still comfortably take the WRX on smooth dirt trails, smooth icy pathways, or light gravel tracks. While the stock WRX isn’t designed to jump and bump like its rally counterparts, you can still make full use of the asymmetrical all-wheel drive to venture into places where most other commuter sedans aren’t designed to go, as demonstrated with an off-road test of a stock 2021 WRX on a dirt track by YOY TV3.

A dark blue 2022 Subaru WRX driving on the racetrack

1 – The Stock WRX Can Drift

Drifting is another hardcore enthusiast spectacle. Many cars with enough horsepower and the ability to disengage traction control can generally drift, but it may not always go well. Also, you can easily wear down the lifespan of the vehicle by drifting if it isn’t designed to drift on certain kinds of surfaces. You wear out the tires, the shocks, the suspension, the e-brake, drivetrain, and the steering. But it all depends on where and how you drift.

The good part about the WRX is that in conjunction with being able to drive comfortably on smooth trails, sandy tracks, or flat dirt courses, it opens up the ability to easily drift on these loose-surface conditions as well. Even better, the stock 2022 Subaru WRX can accomplish this feat without aftermarket tuning. The only thing you may have to consider is swapping the tires depending on where you plan to drift. Snow tires if you plan on drifting across ice or snow, and all-terrain tires if you plan on drifting across dirt or sand. But right out of the gate, you can definitely drift with a stock WRX, which was one of the big promotion points that Subaru highlighted in their official reveal of the car.

Unlike a lot of other performance sedans that usually can powerslide here or there across wet tarmac or slippery asphalt, the WRX has a personality better suited to drift across surfaces with less friction. This is due to the all-wheel drive designed to maintain grip on asphalt but keep you moving on loose surfaces. This is why the WRX is so efficient at hugging corners at high speeds on paved streets, but just as fun to drive when you want to perform drifts across paths with less friction. You can also fine-tune the differential to get better results depending on how and where you might attempt to drift the WRX. It’s not something the average sedan owner will probably be interested in, but it’s still a pretty cool feat for the 2022 WRX and definitely a reason to check out a Subaru WRX dealer if that’s the sort of thing that strikes your fancy.

A green 2022 Subaru Ascent Limited parked in front of a carnival.

Though the Subaru Ascent is still young, having been first introduced in 2018, it is quickly becoming one of the more popular three-row SUVs on the market today. From the great gas mileage to the superior cargo space, there are a lot of benefits to visiting your Subaru Ascent dealership. However, there is one aspect of the 2022 Subaru Ascent that truly sets it apart from the competition, and that is the safety features. This year’s model is one of the safest vehicles on the road today, and you are going to love that you can feel confident entrusting your loved ones to this Subaru SUV.

What’s Included in the Standard EyeSight Driver Assist Technology?

Subaru is a car brand that truly believes in the safety of its drivers, and the standard inclusion of EyeSight Driver Assist Technology in all of its vehicles truly proves this point. In fact, according to the Subaru website, EyeSight Driver Assist Technology has helped to reduce the rate of rear-end accidents by up to 85%. That’s a huge decrease! It’s no wonder why families who are interested in keeping their families safe on the road are flocking to Subaru, including the new Subaru Ascent.

But what exactly is included in the Standard EyeSight Driver Assist Technology? When you opt for a Subaru Ascent, your vehicle will automatically come with the following safety features:

  • Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering – Your Ascent will monitor the traffic around you and keep your vehicle in the center of your lane while also maintaining a safe following distance from the vehicles in front of you.
  • Automatic Pre-Collision Braking Feature – Helps to avoid front-end collisions by monitoring traffic and pedestrians in front of you and sending alerts or even applying the brakes if a potential collision is detected.
  • Pre-Collision Throttle Management – Your Subaru will monitor traffic in front of you and will reduce power to the engine so that you don’t accidentally rear-end anybody.
  • Lane Keep Assist with Sway Warning – The Subaru Ascent will monitor your position on the road and alert you if you begin to drift out of your lane.
  • As you can see, these are some premium safety features, and each one of them comes standard in every single 2022 Subaru Ascent model. With these kinds of safety features, you can rest easy knowing your family will always be as safe as possible, no matter where you are. Consider these features to be like another set of expert eyes helping you watch the road while you’re driving.

Since EyeSight Driver Assist Technology is standard in all of their vehicles, Subaru has been able to boast that this is one of the most affordable safety features on the market today. Every driver can afford to have a little bit more peace of mind when they get behind the wheel, whether they’re making their daily commute to work, driving the kids to their soccer games, or enjoying a family road trip.

What is Subaru STARLINK?

One of the best things about Subaru EyeSight Driver Assist Technology is that it’s so easy to use, and it helps you avoid dangerous situations without adding anything too complicated to your vehicle. However, the Subaru EyeSight Driver Assist Technology is not the only aspect of the new 2022 Subaru Aspect that makes it so appealing for drivers who are concerned about safety. One of the biggest questions our customers always ask us is, “What other safety features should I look for when I’m shopping around for my next car?” Fortunately, there are some safety features you can add to your vehicle that help protect both yourself and other drivers on the road.

You see, while EyeSight Driver Assist Technology is definitely one of the best safety features available today, it does not do everything. That’s where Subaru STARLINK comes in. Consider Subaru STARLINK to be the next generation in safety features and safety advancements. So what exactly is Subaru STARLINK, and what can it do for you?

There are actually two aspects to Subaru’s STARLINK. The first is Subaru STARLINK Multimedia which consists of a variety of multimedia and connectivity features. These features are fun and convenient, but it’s the second aspect of STARLINK that we’re really loving, and that’s the Subaru STARLINK Safety and Security. When you opt for the STARLINK Safety and Security feature, you’ll be getting a collection of exclusive safety, security, and connectivity features that will take your family’s safety to the next step.

Let’s take a look at what you’ll get when you opt for the Subaru STARLINK Safety and Security add-on.

  • Advanced Automatic Collision Notification – This system will automatically alert an emergency operator if your vehicle ever gets into an accident. This way, you can always rest easy knowing that emergency personnel will be on their way, and you can just worry about keeping yourself safe and comfortable while you wait.
  • SOS Emergency Assistance – This system allows you to call emergency personnel with the mere push of a button rather than having to pull out your cell phone and attempt to drive while making a call in the event that you need to report a hazardous situation.
  • Stolen Vehicle Recovery – Has the ability to alert you, as well as emergency personnel, if your vehicle is ever stolen. You can also include the option of being able to immobilize your stolen vehicle, making its recovery even easier.
  • Vehicle Alerts – Turn on a variety of alerts, including curfew alert (for teenage drivers who are out close to curfew), speed alert (alerts you if your vehicle is going too fast), and so much more.
  • STARLINK Concierge Services – Assists with tasks such as navigation, calendar scheduling, appointment setting, and even reservation making.

The features included in Subaru STARLINK are an excellent way for drivers looking to take their safety a step further. Being able to feel more secure when your family is behind the wheel is priceless. Subaru STARLINK can help you do just that. When you pair the available safety features of the Subaru Ascent with Subaru EyeSight Driver Assist Technology, you can rest easy knowing that your family’s safety is in good hands, and those good hands don’t have to be yours. After all, when your safety is taken care of by a company as reputable as Subaru, you know you’re in good hands.

Why Does Subaru Care So Much About Safety?

When you look at the safety features available in the Subaru Ascent, there’s no denying that this vehicle is capable of doing some amazing things. It’s easy to see why so many drivers are shopping for their next car with the Subaru Ascent in mind. But why does Subaru care about safety so much? After all, it’s not like Subaru is all of a sudden making vehicles designed exclusively for families.

The truth is, Subaru has always made safety the primary focus of their vehicles. After all, providing drivers with excellent security features isn’t something new. What is new, however, are the amazing advancements that Subaru has made over the years. They’ve really moved forward in terms of safety, and when you buy a new 2022 Subaru Ascent, you can take advantage of these amazing advancements.

A blue 2022 Subaru Forester Wilderness driving down a wooded path.

Subaru has long been a brand with a strong connection to the outdoors. As one of the first auto manufacturers to offer all-wheel drive on large SUVs, it’s no wonder Subaru has become a favorite among adventure-ready drivers who expect a little more versatility from their vehicles. Now, an intriguing new model is arriving at Charlotte car dealerships, seeking to build on that stellar reputation. The 2022 Subaru Forester Wilderness gives an off-road upgrade to Subaru’s most popular compact SUV. Following in the trail blazed earlier this year by a Wilderness edition of the 2022 Subaru Outback, the 2022 Forester Wilderness is the second – but probably not the last – Subaru to get an outdoorsy upgrade.

The newest edition of the best-selling SUV integrates a number of trail-worthy upgrades on both the design and performance sides of the equation. From sleek new contours and interior upgrades to a lifted chassis and purpose-built suspension, the 2022 Forester is hiding some intriguing surprises behind its new Wilderness badge. This mid-cycle reimagining of the fifth-generation SUV results in a compact crossover that’s not only stylish, fun to drive, and more than capable of holding its own off-road but also solidifies the Forester’s reputation as a family-friendly vehicle that isn’t afraid to get a little dirty.?

A Legacy In The Wilderness

Subaru’s reputation as the go-to choice for the backpack-and-hiking-boot set cannot be understated. The brand has long captured the imagination of this outdoorsy segment thanks to its standard symmetrical all-wheel drive performance, but even that can’t fully explain its popularity. A quick visual survey of cars on the road underscores this point; while no one keeps statistics on such things, we bet you’d be hard-pressed to find any automobile brands on the road toting more kayaks and mountain bikes than Subaru.

Perhaps it’s the 76 cubic feet of cargo room in the Forester, giving drivers the opportunity to easily tote everything they need for a weekend off the grid – or provide some overnight shelter should the forecast turn against you. Maybe it’s the impressive fuel economy and ground clearance, making the Forester an exceedingly practical choice for everyday driving; a well-rounded vehicle that’s equally at home on the gravel roads of a state park as it is navigating dense city traffic. Drivers and critics alike have recognized the SUV’s backwoods bona fides, with the Forester even being named the Edmunds’ best all-in-one camping vehicle in its segment.

Whatever it is, there’s little question that Subaru has become adept at designing the type of vehicles that appeal to this demographic. This reputation has almost become something of a self-fulfilling prophecy over the years: outdoorsy people drive Subarus, and Subarus are perfect for outdoorsy people. Subaru has taken advantage of this positive feedback loop, leaning into its legacy and continually pushing the envelope with adventurous vehicles that yearn to kick up a little gravel.

Subaru has made similar overtures to the kayak crowd before, collaborating with a legacy outdoors retailer in the early 2000s to offer the Forester L.L. Bean edition. A unique trim package featuring many of the era’s top-of-the-line features, the L.L. Bean edition included a wood-accented Momo steering wheel, panoramic moonroof, leather seats emblazoned with L.L. Bean branding, and rear self-leveling suspension for a smoother ride on uneven terrain.

The new Wilderness editions seem to take up this muddy mantle, offering popular models kitted out with the type of off-road upgrades that individual Subaru owners have been undertaking on their own for years. As we look forward to the Forester Wilderness arriving at our Charlotte dealership, a look at the recently released Outback Wilderness should give us a hint of what’s in store.

Style, Performance Upgrades Lend Off-Road Cred

Unveiled in March, The Outback was the first Subaru to get the Wilderness treatment, but every indication says that it won’t be the last. While Subaru hasn’t officially announced its plans for the Wilderness family, we expect that the Subaru Ascent and Subaru Crosstrek are next in line after the Subaru Wilderness. The Wilderness Outback is a striking departure from the base model, with some distinctive performance tweaks and design flourishes that immediately set it apart in the crowded SUV market.

At first glance, the Wilderness Outback looks like a slightly beefier model of the best-selling compact crossover, but these small changes go a long way in earning the Outback some backcountry cred. Adding nearly an inch in ground clearance, the Outback rides a generous 9.5 inches above the trail with an added skid plate and redesigned bumpers allowing for more aggressive approach and departure angles. Yokohama GEOLANDAR tires and off-road wheels will give drivers confidence in adverse conditions, and a full-size spare ensures you’ll never be stranded if worse comes to worst.

From a design perspective, there’s no denying the more aggressive silhouette of the Wilderness Outback. Black exterior trim, ample, chunky cladding around the wheel arches, and Anodized Copper accents add a decidedly sporty and functional look to the SUV. These splashes of yellow and gold on the roof and tail are a novel way to draw attention to the Outback’s gear-towing capabilities, drawing the eye to the points where one can easily mount gear and tents or tow trailers and boats. With a reimagined roof rack that can accommodate up to 700 pounds when stationary, the Wilderness edition is also the perfect Outback for the increasingly popular rooftop tent. The interior keeps the focus on functionality with fold-flat rear seats, an LED cargo lamp integrated into the rear gate, and StarTex water-repellent fabric that guarantees the memories of your weekend adventures will live on in your mind, not your upholstery.

On the performance side, a turbocharged Subaru Boxer engine earns the Outback an impressive tow rating of 3,500 pounds. The 260-horsepower engine offers 277 pound-feet of torque, as well as upgraded gear ratios to aid in ascending steeper grades. Subaru’s popular X-Mode has seen an update here as well, offering the standard Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud driving modes and adding a function that enables the vehicles to shift from low-speed driving to full speed without an abrupt change in performance.

A Sibling Resemblance

The 2022 Subaru Forester Wilderness includes many of these same design upgrades, with promotional material hinting at similarly squared-off headlights, bold accent ridges, and protective cladding over the wheel arches, as well as new fog lamp housings seamlessly integrated into the front bumper cover. Just as in the Outback Wilderness, the front and rear bumpers of the Forester Wilderness have been reimagined to improve approach and departure angles, giving the SUV the ability to tackle steeper obstacles without having to worry about the paint job.

Similarities between the Wilderness Outback and Forester continue on the performance side, with both vehicles tweaking their suspensions to offer a softer ride in bumpy, off-road conditions as well as offering a skid plate and Yokohama GEOLANDAR tires. Subaru’s growing Wilderness family is far more than the outdoorsy appearance packages offered by other brands. With the new version of the Outback and the Forester, Subaru has demonstrated once again that it understands what adventure-seeking Charlotte-area drivers require to get out into the wild.

You casually start searching online for used vehicles in the area, but you’re inundated by your options that range from sports cars and coupes to sedans, crossovers, and trucks. Does this sound familiar? As your premier Charlotte used car dealer, we know exactly how it feels to try to find the right used car, and that’s why we’re here to help you narrow down your search for the perfect vehicle.

Your search can begin and end with the Subaru brand. Subaru has a stellar reputation in the automotive industry thanks to decades of building reliable, capable, top-quality, and safe vehicles that can log hundreds of thousands of miles with ease. Because of this and the innovation you’ll find in every Subaru, buying a used Subaru is one of the best decisions you can make. Don’t believe us? Here’s everything a used Subaru has to offer!

Subaru’s Exclusive Boxer Engine

Automobile engines may all serve the same purpose, but they don’t all operate the same. The Subaru Boxer engine is evidence of that thanks to its horizontally-opposed layout that puts the pistons on their sides in a left-right configuration rather than the normal inline engines that position the pistons in an up-down configuration. The pistons move like a boxer’s fists in a fight (hence the name), but instead of moving in the same direction as in a traditional engine, the pistons move in opposite directions. Why is any of this remarkable?

Function is a huge factor when you’re building a vehicle, and traditional engines take up a lot of room under the hood. Subaru’s Boxer engine is significantly more compact than other engines because of the horizontal layout of the pistons. Because the engine is smaller, it sits lower in the vehicle and gives the Subaru a lower center of gravity that adds to its stability.

The movement of the pistons in opposite directions also contributes to the vehicle’s stability. The cylinders are separated by a crankshaft and equally distribute the weight of the engine along the centerline of the vehicle as they move in opposite directions. Along with the Boxer engine’s shortened length, this contributes to the Subaru’s overall balance. This makes the Subaru more stable when changing directions and navigating tight corners, as well as more agile and responsive, all of which add to your overall safety when you’re behind the wheel.

Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive

Another benefit to buying a used Subaru is that every model comes standard with symmetrical all-wheel drive. No other automaker outfits their entire lineup with standard all-wheel drive, and that makes Subarus an even better value. So, what exactly is symmetrical all-wheel drive, and why is it different from other all-wheel drive systems?

Unlike other front-wheel drive-based standard all-wheel drive systems, Subaru’s symmetrical standard all-wheel drive is not an afterthought but is designed as an inherent part of the car. It is designed to give you peace of mind when you’re navigating wet, slippery, snowy, or icy conditions. The system sends power to all four wheels to maximize traction when you need it most and, in turn, accelerate through hazardous terrain. By constantly responding to the vehicle’s needs, the standard all-wheel drive system gives you better stability and more control when you’re in the driver’s seat.

The standard all-wheel drive system works behind the scenes in conjunction with a suite of other tools that are designed to add stability to your Subaru even when the road says otherwise. The Vehicle Dynamics Control system automatically monitors your steering and braking to help keep the Subaru on its path, while the Anti-Lock Braking System prevents the brakes from locking, which can cause the vehicle to skid or veer off its path. The Electronic Brake-Force Distribution senses the vehicle’s weight in terms of passenger and cargo load to optimize the distribution of the brakes between the front and rear wheels. Lastly, the Brake Assist system can sense when a collision is imminent and apply hard emergency braking to bring the Subaru to a quick stop.

Subaru’s Safety and Driver-Assist Technology

You’ll find a wide variety of safety and driver-assist technology when you start shopping for a used Subaru. Older models have fewer driver-assist features than newer models, but that doesn’t discount their reliability or exceptional safety ratings. The Subaru brand has built its reputation on safety and is one of the few automakers in the industry that’s had every model in its lineup earn a Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. But what makes Subarus so safe?

Subaru introduced its EyeSight technology on the Legacy and Outback in 2013 and 2014 and has since added the technology to every vehicle in its fleet. The suite serves as an extra set of eyes on the road and has proven to reduce rear-end crashes with injuries by up to 85 percent thanks to tools like Pre-Collision Throttle Management, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Pre-Collision Braking. The suite is also home to Blind Spot Detection which makes changing lanes easier, while Lane Keep Assist and Sway Warning keep you centered in your lane. Adaptive Cruise Control monitors the flow of traffic and adjusts your cruising speed as needed to maintain a safe distance from the vehicles ahead.

Along with the introduction of EyeSight, Subaru also introduced STARLINK Safety and Security. While EyeSight gives you another set of eyes on the road, STARLINK gives you the comfort of knowing you’ll always have help when you need it most. The STARLINK suite includes services like the Automatic Collision Notification, which notifies a STARLINK advisor when the airbag deploys. If the driver fails to respond to the advisor, the advisor can contact emergency personnel. You can also use the SOS button in the vehicle to contact a STARLINK advisor in the event of an emergency or if you need roadside assistance.

Since STARLINK’s introduction, Subaru has continued to expand the service to drivers, and that means you can continue to enjoy the same benefits if your used Subaru is equipped with the technology. For example, the STARLINK Safety Plus Package includes the features listed above, as well as maintenance notifications, a monthly vehicle health report, and diagnostic alerts that are designed to keep your Subaru running at its best at all times. The STARLINK Safety Plus & Security Plus Package gives you even more peace of mind by adding Stolen Vehicle Recovery Service and a Vehicle Security Alarm Notification, as well as a vehicle locator and remote control over the doors, horn, and lights.
