For more than 20 years, the Subaru Outback has remained one of the most popular vehicles on the road by providing a safe option for families that is also incredibly fun to drive. What has become the Outback owes its roots to the Subaru Legacy, a midsize sedan that was first introduced for the 1990 model year. The Legacy of the Subaru Outback

Unlike many vehicles that spring whole-cloth into creation with their own identity, the Subaru Outback is part of a greater legacy. This is to say: the Outback got its start as part of another model when Subaru introduced a new station wagon version of its Legacy sedan and called it the Subaru Legacy Outback. This Legacy Outback proved so popular that Subaru decided to start offering it as its own model, where it would have a better chance to shine and get further improvements throughout the generations that would follow. As a result of its origins coming from a sedan, the first few generations of the Outback featured a station wagon design that afforded plenty of passenger and cargo space inside.

In the years that followed, the Outback continued to grow with each passing generation, becoming larger while still primarily building upon the same platform as the Legacy. In this way, it has evolved from a traditional station wagon into a crossover SUV that retains much of the same philosophy behind its design, offering more Outback for drivers from one year to another. These days, the Outback has become a midsize crossover model with two rows of seating, creating a comfortable and sporty option that comes with Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (AWD) and other fantastic features inside and out.

Terrific New and Used Outback Options

Since the Subaru Outback has been around for so many years, it means you have a lot of different options available to you when shopping for one. A brand-new Outback is a fantastic option if you want all of the latest features and options for your midsize crossover SUV. This includes an excellent engine that makes the Outback a lot of fun to drive, plus standard AWD performance to support any sort of lifestyle and driving conditions. New models also feature numerous trim levels and options to choose from, so you can get the perfect SUV with everything you have been looking for.

If a brand-new Outback is not right for you, however, then you can take a look at our excellent selection of pre-owned Subaru vehicles. Some of our customers worry that choosing a used Outback means missing out on a lot of features and options, but our vehicles are in gorgeous condition and represent a wide range of trims and packages. No matter what you are looking for in your next vehicle, we will do everything we can to ensure you find it and drive away in a Subaru SUV that you will love for many years to come.

The 2023 Subaru Outback

The current generation of the Subaru Outback kicked off just a few years ago, and the 2023 model continues to build on that with fantastic features throughout. It comes powered by a 2.5L Subaru Boxer-4 engine that delivers 182 hp and 176 lb-ft of torque. If you want greater performance, then there is an available 2.4L Turbocharged Boxer-4 engine that boosts that up to 260 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque. The standard engine can handle up to 2,700 lbs of towing, while the available turbocharged option kicks that up to 3,500 lbs of towing. Both engines come paired with a continuously variable transmission and Subaru’s Symmetrical AWD.

Inside the Subaru Outback, you get plenty of space for everyone you need to bring with you, thanks to two rows of seating for up to five passengers and more than 107 cu.ft. of passenger volume inside. You also get 32.5 cu.ft. of rear cargo volume behind the back seats and 75.7 cu.ft. of total cargo space with the rear seats lowered. The interior is incredibly comfortable thanks to standard cloth upholstery with leather-trimmed upholstery available, plus you get an 11.6-inch Multimedia Plus infotainment display in most models. You can also add an available Harman Kardon premium sound system to take your drive to the next level.
